On Friday, both clubs announced an agreement over the defender, who then made his way to Amsterdam. On Monday, Alvarez completed his medical checks and put pen-to-paper on his five-year contract.
Ajax pays Club America €15 million for the centre-back, who is the replacement for Matthijs de Ligt, who is now with Juventus.
The 21-year-old is the sixth new permanent arrival at Ajax this summer after Razvan Marin, Kik Pierie, Kjell Scherpen, Lisandro Martínez and Quincy Promes.
Great signing huge fan of Edson but I keep reading he is De Ligt’s replacent & he could be. He started at CB but he has played in mid DM more lately for Club America & Mexico. He is tall strong quick tidy passer very well rounded & aslo a good RB too has played there for club & was thrown In deep end for Mexico when 20 at WC & did well.
So he could be cover for Frenkie, hot Marin but he is more fwd playing CM while Edson can get fwd his reason & positioning is very good to break that play & Marshall midfield.
Pierie love him good start today at LB have plenty of LCB w him Martinez from Denfensa & Blind. Might be good for Martinez to get loan tbh 21 needs to be playing.
