The Amsterdam club had been linked with the 19-year-old for weeks and had bids turned down by Sao Paulo earlier in the month.
However, Ajax have finally got their man for an initial €12 million, but the deal could rise to €15 million, which makes him the clubs second most expensive signing ever after Miralem Sulejmani. The club will own 80% of the players rights with Neres signing a deal until 2021.
Neres won’t join up with his new teammates until February with the youngster currently competing in the U20 South American championships with Brazil.
The youngster joins Ajax as the replacement for Anwar El Ghazi, who completed his move to Lille on Tuesday.
