Benfica’s elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday confirmed Ajax’s spot in pot two for the group stage draw.

Benfica’s 2-1 loss to PAOK on Tuesday night eliminated the Portuguese side from the competition. That was big news for Ajax.

The Eredivisie champions have now been confirmed in pot 2 for the group stage draw, meaning that Ajax avoid some tricky teams including Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Shakhtar Donetsk, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund are the other teams that will join Ajax in pot 2. The draw will take place on the 1st of October.
