Netherlands U17’s came from behind to defeat Portugal U17’s 2-1 in their second game of the Algarve Cup.

Netherlands were held to a 1-1 draw by Spain in the opening game of the tournament last week but they got their first win on Sunday evening.

Hosts Portugal dominated early on and deservedly took the lead through Famana Quizera. Netherlands nearly equalised before the break but Ajax midfielder Naci Ünüvar struck the post.

Netherlands went looking for the equaliser after the break and it eventually came ten minutes from the end. Ünüvar provided the finish after being set up by Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen.

In injury time, Netherlands snatched the victory when Ünüvar’s strike was parried into the path of his Ajax teammate Kenneth Taylor who finished well for his second goal in two games.

Netherlands will end the tournament against Germany on Tuesday.
