Confidence couldn’t be higher at Ajax right now after their 4-1 win at the Bernabeu in midweek. Erik ten Hag decided to make only one change for the visit of Fortuna Sittard with Lasse Schone rested and Kasper Dolberg starting.
Dusan Tadic was the mastermind of the famous Champions League win and after only four minutes he fired Ajax into the lead with a precise finish into the top corner.
Chances came and went for the hosts before Hakim Ziyech’s cross was slid into the net by David Neres to make it 2-0 on 27 minutes. It’s been an excellent week for Neres, who not only scored against Real Madrid but was also called into the Brazil squad.
Fortuna were no match for Ajax, who drove forward at will but the home crowd had to wait until the hour mark for a third. Tadic played in Neres, who cut back before firing in his second.
With five minutes left, Dolberg burst in on goal but unselfishly squared to Tadic who tapped in his second and Ajax’s fourth.
The victory was simple for Ajax who know a win over PEC Zwolle on Wednesday would put them back to within two points of PSV. Fortuna Sittard are 14th.
