Ajax have exited the Europa League after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Molde at the Amsterdam Arena.

aja molde whiThe Eredivisie side went into the game knowing they had to beat the Norwegian’s and hope Fenerbahce slipped up at home to Celtic, but with both games ending in a 1-1 draw, Ajax have exited the competition.

Things started out well for Ajax though with Donny van de Beek sending a header into the top corner on fourteen minutes for his first goal for the club.

Shortly after the goal Nemanja Gudelj struck the crossbar from range, but on 29 minutes Molde equalised with former Feyenoord midfielder Harmeet Singh beating Jasper Cillessen from the edge of the box with a deflected strike.

In the second half chances were few and far between with Anwar El Ghazi striking the crossbar a few minutes after his introduction, and Ajax’s poor Europa League campaign ended with ten men as Nemanja Gudelj saw red late on after his second yellow card.

There was to be no great escape for Ajax, and they become the fifth and final Dutch side to exit the competition this season.
