Ajax are now resigned to losing Martinez, who will shortly complete a move to Manchester United which will earn the Amsterdam side around €55 million.
Voetbal International is reporting that Ajax will look at Rangers defender Calvin Bassey as a replacement for Martinez. The 22-year-old Nigerian has been on Ajax’s radar for some time, and Alfred Schreuder has already held a phone call to convince him of the move.
As soon as Martinez to Manchester United is confirmed, Ajax will make their interest concrete with Rangers
Bassey, who can play on the centre or on the left-hand side of defence, joined Rangers from Leicester City in 2020. He has since made 65 appearances for the club coached by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
