Ajax couldn’t close the gap on leaders PSV to two points after being held to a 0-0 draw by ADO Den Haag.

With PSV facing a tricky trip to Feyenoord later on the Sunday, Ajax knew a win over ADO Den Haag would put them within two points of the top spot. Without Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Lasse Schone, Siem de Jong and Carel Eiting came into the line-up.

As expected, Ajax dominated from the start and created several chances which were wasted early on by Justin Kluivert and Nicolas Tagliafico. At the other end, ADO Den Haag failed to register a single shot in the first half, but went into the break level.

In the second half the chances kept coming for Ajax. Frenkie de Jong sent a header wide from an excellent Hakim Ziyech cross while David Neres was twice denied by Robert Zwinkels from close range. The biggest chance fell to Siem de Jong halfway through the second half, but his header came off the inside of the post and somehow Zwinkels clawed the ball to safety.

Ten Hag threw on Amin Younes, Mateo Cassierra and debutante Dani de Wit before the end but the winning goal never came. Ziyech hit the post with a free kick whileFrenkie¬†De Jong couldn’t convert a cross from close range before Neres saw his shot cleared from the line.

A frustrated Ajax had to settle for a point which moves them to within four points of PSV, but if the leaders defeat Feyenoord then they become clear favourites for the title. ADO Den Haag stay 8th.
