Ajax came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Feyenoord in De Klassieker on Sunday.

Feyenoord had Quinten Timber back in their squad but Arne Slot did not make any changes to his eleven. Ajax were without Devyne Rensch so Edson Alvarez started at the back, while Mohammed Kudus began up front.

Feyenoord had the better of the opening phase and they almost took the lead through a Jurrien Timber own goal, but Gerónimo Rulli saved Ajax.

Jurrien Timber and Alireza Jahanbakhsh both saw yellow for a square up before Feyenoord had the lead in the 34th minute. Steven Berghuis lost the ball and Quilindschy Hartman go the ball to Igor Piaxao, who fired an excellent strike past Rulli.

At the break, Steven Bergwijn replaced Francisco Conceição as Ajax looked for the equaliser but it was Danilo who had the first chance of the second half. The former Ajax striker could only fire wide.

Kudus missed a big chance to equalise but in the 71st minute, Davy Klaassen worked the ball into the net off of Mats Wieffer to make it 1-1.

The game then went end to end but the biggest chance for a winner came for Feyenoord as Santiago Giminez raced in on goal but the Mexican forward saw his strike kept out by Rulli.

Feyenoord remains top of the league for this weekend while Ajax could be fifth if AZ Alkmaar avoid defeat against Fortuna Sittard.
