Ajax have reached the KNVB Cup final after a comfortable 3-0 victory in De Kuip.

The two clubs clashed in the league at De Kuip in January with Feyenoord running out 6-2 winners. Ajax went looking for revenge on Thursday night but it was Feyenoord who made a strong start.

In the first ten minutes, the hosts got two great chances. Firstly, Sam Larsson found himself through on goal but he struck the post. Then Robin van Persie was denied by a last ditch Matthijs de Ligt tackle.

The Ajax defender was making his 100th appearance for the Amsterdammers and moments before the break he opened the scoring from a corner.

Four minutes into the second half it was 2-0 for the visitors when Nicolas Tagliafico received the ball at the back post unmarked and the left-back fired past Kenneth Vermeer.

Jens Toornstra wasted a great chance to make it 2-1 just after the hour mark. The midfielder found himself with just Andre Onana to beat but his finish was wild.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst swapped Robin van Persie for Nicolai Jorgensen, but moments after the change, Donny van de Beek settled the match for Ajax. After good work by Hakim Ziyech, van de Beek hammered a low strike past Vermeer to book Ajax’s place in the final.

Feyenoord, who won the cup last season, have now lost their last chance of silverware, while Ajax head into the cup final for the first time since 2014.
