Ajax have climbed to the top of the Eredivisie after a 5-2 victory at FC Emmen.

Erik ten Hag decided to make two chances to the side that beat PSV Eindhoven at the weekend with Rasmus Kristensen replacing the suspended Nasser Mazroui, while Klaas Jan Huntelaar started up front as Hakim Ziyech dropped to the bench.

After only nine minutes, Ajax took the lead with Donny van de Beek slotting past Kjell Scherpen after being set up by Huntelaar.

Both sides then traded chances before Daley Blind made it 2-0 just before the break after a clever free-kick by Lasse Schone.

David Neres made it 3-0 quickly into the second half after an error by Scherpen before Huntelaar netted his 100th Ajax goal to make it 4-0 moments later.

Ajax were cruising and on the hour mark Neres made it 5-0 after being set up by van de Beek.

Nicolas Tagliafico scored a bizarre own goal with a backpass which caught Andre Onana off guard to make it 1-5 and Jafar Arias pulled another one back for the hosts just before the end.

A comfortable win for Ajax puts them one point ahead of PSV Eindhoven, who face PEC Zwolle on Thursday. Emmen are now second-bottom.
