According to Catalunya Radio, talks between Ajax and Barcelona have taken place over a possible deal for midfielder Carles Aleña.

Catalunya radio is reporting that Ajax director Marc Overmars has spoken with his Barcelona counterpart Eric Abidal and the agent of the Spanish midfielder over a possible deal.

They add that the deal could be part of a transfer that takes Matthijs de Ligt to Spain. It is unknown whether a deal for Aleña would be permanent or a loan.

In recent weeks there have been reports that Barcelona and Ajax have been in talks over a potential partnership which would see the Amsterdammers loan several of the Spanish giants talents. However, Overmars seemed to dismiss this when he stated that Ajax would not be a feeder club for anyone.

Aleña recently signed a new deal with Barcelona which keeps him at the club until 2022. The 21-year-old has made 19 first-team appearances this season, scoring once.
