According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are hoping to become the major shareholder in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

At the moment, Ajax pays around €10 million a year to rent the stadium and they have very little say in the operations at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are now looking to become the major shareholder in the stadium, which they will look to improve in order to help them move closer to the biggest clubs in Europe.

General manager Edwin van der Sar reportedly told the newspaper, “The Arena is not prepared to work well together, but a majority for Ajax could offer a solution to the financial and operational problems. The ArenA will have to adopt a different attitude towards Ajax in various areas.”

The relationship between Ajax and the Arena has deteriorated over the past year and a mediator is required to continue conversation between the two parties.

Ajax is unhappy with the fact that money from the catering goes to the Arena and not the club. Ajax is also unable to display their own sponsors on matchdays because the Arena has its own.

Ajax wants to buy the stadium so they can implement whatever they want to help the club and their financial goals.
