vdv hamajaVan der Vaart is out of contract with Hamburg this summer, and Ajax are determined to bring the midfielder back to Amsterdam, and have offered their former captain a one-year-deal. However the 32-year-old is reportedly holding out for a four-year-deal, two as a player, and two as a coach, while he will also get more lucrative offers from clubs abroad.

Frank de Boer has now stated they have issued an ultimatum to Van der Vaart, as they will not wait long for the player to come to his final decision, with other targets to move onto.

De Boer told AT5, We like him very much, but Rafael must also like us. I understand that he did not directly say yes, but we have made him an ultimatum, ”

“But I do not doubt his motivation. Despite his tumultuous private life he has always been on top and professional. ”

Ajax are hoping that the chance to play in the Champions League, and opportunity to play under the watch of Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink will convince Van der Vaart to return to Amsterdam.
