After allowing Kolbeinn Sigthorsson to join French club Nantes and loaning Richairo Zivkovic to Willem II, Ajax are short on forwards with Arkaduisz Milik the only recognised striker in their squad.
Ajax have been linked with Vaclav Kadlec this summer and speaking to the club’s official website, coach Frank de Boer confirmed a new striker is on his wish list.
De Boer said, “We do not just buy to buy. But we are looking for a striker. Its just not easy.”
“Suppose Milik fails, you’ll miss a real striker. Anwar (El Ghazi) can play there, Davy (Klaassen) can, but it’s not ideal. If there is a player who has a real added value, then we’ll get him. Otherwise we’re going to do it with this group.”
Departures from Ajax are still a possibility with Manchester United heavily linked with goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as a possible replacement for David de Gea, who is under interest from Real Madrid. However De Boer does not believe his number one will exit the Amsterdam Arena.
De Boer said, “He is very important to us so we do not want to lose him. I’m assuming that he stays.”
