The 32-year-old midfielder’s deal at Hamburg is up this summer and Ajax are working hard to bring their former captain back to Amsterdam, with adding experience to the team one of Frank de Boer’s main objective’s this summer.
According to De Telegraaf, Ajax have made contact with Van der Vaart’s representatives in order to state their interest, and the midfielder hasn’t completely rejected the idea, despite stating last week that he wasn’t looking to return to Netherlands yet.
Ajax’s interest may come to nothing should another club offer Van der Vaart a bumper contract, but in Amsterdam the midfielder will have the chance to play in the Champions League preliminary rounds, and impress Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink regularly. Returning to the Netherlands squad for Euro 2016 is one of Van der Vaart’s dreams, and at Ajax he would have a great chance to impress Hiddink.
Along with Ajax, Celtic, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray have been linked with Van der Vaart, while a move to the MLS is also a possibility with Sporting Kansas holding talks with the midfielder earlier this year.
