PSV’s shock 2-2 draw with ADO Den Haag opened the door for Ajax to take control of the title race in Almelo.
Heracles started brightly but Teun Bijleveld wasted a great chance to give them the lead early on. Then in the 14th minute, Ajax had the lead when Sebastien Haller set up Davy Klaassen to net.
However, Heracles were not happy with the goal as they believed Dusan Tadic had fouled in the build-up and that Haller was offside before setting up Klaassen. VAR looked at the goal for over three minutes before it was eventually given.
Ajax couldn’t build on their goal and Heracles had chances to equalise, but both Delano Burgzorg and Ismail Azzaoui couldn’t capitalise.
In the 79th minute, Haller dealt the final blow after good work in the build-up by Klaassen.
Ajax go clear at the top and can now look ahead to Thursday’s clash with Lille in the Europa League. Heracles are 11th.
