The 32-year-old will soon be out of contract when his deal with Hamburg expires this summer. A number of clubs have reportedly shown interest in Van der Vaart, but the former Real Madrid and Tottenham star now has a concrete offer to return home.
According to De Telegraaf, Ajax have put a one-year contract on the table for their former captain to consider. The contract will not be the most lucrative that Van der Vaart will receive this summer, but Ajax are hoping that the possibility of Champion’s League football, and the chance to impress Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink, will sway his decision.
Last month Van der Vaart spoke openly of his desire to return to the national team, and at Ajax he would have the best opportunity to do this.
