Ajax or PSV?

Ajax are undoubtedly the favourites to lift their first Eredivisie trophy since 2014 with two very winnable games ahead of them. However, will Erik ten Hag’s side be able to pick themselves up from their Champions League disappointment against Tottenham?

Utrecht head to Amsterdam on Sunday with several players out and in the final home game of the season, Ajax’s fans will be eager to give the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong a big send-off.

The big test for Ajax will come on Wednesday when they travel to De Graafschap. It was in Deventer that Ajax threw away the Eredivisie title on the final day of the 2015/16 season. The Amsterdammers had led the league throughout the whole season but a 1-1 draw on the last day of the season at De Graafschap gifted the title to PSV.

De Graafschap still have a chance of escaping the bottom three and they could be fighting for their lives on the final day of the campaign which gives PSV hope.

Mark van Bommel’s side led the table for most of the campaign and looked the most likely winners. However, since the turn of the year, PSV’s form has dipped and they allowed Ajax to take control.

PSV now need to win a tricky away trip to AZ Alkmaar and the last day clash with Heracles to give themselves any chance of making it two titles in a row.

On paper, Ajax have the easier final two games and are in better form than PSV Eindhoven. However, it is set to be a tense final two match days in the Eredivisie as the title fight goes to the wire.
