Veltman departs Amsterdam for a relatively low fee of £900k due to a clause in his Ajax contract.

The 28-year-old centre-back, who has played many games at right-back in recent years, finally leaves Ajax to achieve the transfer abroad that he wanted several summers ago.

Long-term injury previously held Veltman back from a transfer, and ultimately interest cooled in the defender in later years given his inconsistent form.

Regardless, Veltman, with 22 caps to his name for the Netherlands, moves to England after many years of good service for Ajax. He leaves a Champions League semi-finalist and with three Eredivisie winner’s medals.
