Ajax have confirmed the signing of American youth international Alex Mendez from Freiburg.

The midfielder has signed a three-year contract in Amsterdam and immediately joins the Jong Ajax squad.

The 18-year-old came through the youth team of LA Galaxy before joining Freiburg earlier this year. He didn’t make his debut in the Bundesliga and now heads to the Netherlands.

Mendez is a USA U20 international along with new teammate Sergino Dest.
