Ajax netted in the 95th minute to seal a 3-3 draw against Bayern Munich in a thrilling game at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Ajax head into the Champions League knockout rounds in second place.

With both sides already through to the knockout stages the game in Amsterdam was to settle who finished top of the group. Needing to win, Erik ten Hag welcomed a fit-again Hakim Ziyech to the starting line-up, while Max Wober came into the defence for Daley Blind to take Lasse Schone’s place in midfield.

The game begun openly with Andre Onana having to deny Serge Gnabry, who raced through on goal, while at the other end, Donny van de Beek’s effort had to be saved by Manuel Neuer.

In the 13th minute, Bayern took the lead with Robert Lewandowski getting space in the Ajax box and when he was played in by Gnabry he finished well past Onana.

Onana had to make an excellent stop to deny Lewandowski a second, while at the other end, Daley Blind was denied a penalty after being pushed by Jerome Boateng.

Ajax pinned Bayern back at the start of the second half and in the 61st minute the equaliser came. Hakim Ziyech set van de Beek free with an excellent pass and his cross was converted by Tadic.

Six minutes after the goal, Ajax were dealt a blow when Wober was shown a straight red for a reckless challenge on Goretzka. However, Bayern were also reduced to ten when Thomas Muller charged into a challenge with his foot raised to Nicolas Tagliafico’s head.

Ten Hag brought on Kasper Dolberg and the Dane made an impact, winning Ajax a penalty after a clumsy challenge by Boeteng. Tadic made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-1. Sadly the lead was short lived as Tagliafico brought down Thiago Alcántara and Lewandowski equalised from the resulting penalty.

Kingsley Coman appeared to hand Bayern the victory when he fired in a third for the visitors in the 90th minute, but deep into injury time, Tagliafico equalised with the help of Bayern defender Niklas Süle.

The draw means Bayern top the group and Ajax finish second but the Amsterdammers remain unbeaten in the competition. The draw for the last 16 is made on Monday.
