Ajax failed to go top of the table after only managing a 1-1 draw against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday.

Alfred Schreuder decided to give a start to Florian Grillitsch, Lucas Ocampos, Davy Klaassen and Brian Brobbey, with Edson Álvarez, Steven Bergwijn, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus all on the bench.

The hosts failed to impress in the first half but on the stroke of half time they had the lead. Dusan Tadic set up Klaassen to tap in the opener.

After the break, Ajax failed to kill the game and that gave confidence to the visitors, who had a goal disallowed for a foul on Calvin Bassey. Then in the 78th minute, a low cross from Finn Stokkers reached Willum Thór Willumsson at the back post and he leveled the score for Go Ahead Eagles.

Berghuis, Kudus and Lorenzo Lucca were brought in to find a winner for Ajax but the closest they came was a Tadic effort that was well saved by Jeffrey de Lange.

The draw means Ajax are second and one point behind AZ Alkmaar, while Go Ahead Eagles are 13th.
