Ajax have decided to terminate the contract of Abdelhak Nouri, who still had a deal with the club until this summer.

All Dutch clubs had to announce by April 1st which expiring contracts they were going to terminate, or they are automatically extended by a further year.

Nouri has not been in action since suffering brain damage in 2017 but was still under contract until 2020 and Ajax has continued to pay his salary since then.

However, Ajax have now decided against renewing the deal on the same terms. There is still a legal dispute with Nouri’s family and talks are ongoing on how the club can continue to support their former midfielder, who is awake but is fully dependant on the support of his parents.
