FC Twente has already loaned Danilo and Kik Pierie this summer from Ajax and had set their sights on Ekkelenkamp, who has struggled for game time in Amsterdam.
However, Ajax director Marc Overmars phoned his Twente collegue Jan Streuer and explained that Ekkelenkamp will not be available this summer.
Streuer told TC/Tubantia, “Marc called me. Of course, it can always happen that something will change at the last minute, but we should no longer assume that. On the one hand, that is a pity, but we now know where we stand. We can now switch to alternatives. “
Ekkelenkamp’s chances of playing time with Ajax has increased after the departure of Donny van de Beek to Manchester United.
