The big news from Advocaat’s pre-selection is that Chelsea defender Nathan Ake is in line for his first cap, possibly to stave off interest in the youngster from the Ivory Coast, while Groningen goalkeeper Sergio Padt also gets his first call-up.
Daryl Janmaat, Marten de Roon, Jurgen Locadia and Marco van Ginkel are all recalled to the national team squad too after missing the last few matches. Netherlands face Morocco on the 31st of May, Ivory Coast four days later and then prepare for their next World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg on June the 9th.
The final selection will be announced on Thursday, May 25th, a day after Ajax face Manchester United in the Europa League final.

What else does Erik Pieters need to do to ‘deserve’ a call-up? Who did he piss off at the KNVB? Van Gaal? Definitely underrated as a player!
Yep, I don’t get it either. He’s the only pure left-back that is playing in a top league regularly too. Completely baffling.
Elia deserved to be there
Ricky van wolfswinkel deserve a call also
bazoer (if he doing well at wolfsburg)didnt watch him since he left ajax
First time in a while I haven’t been angered by a team selection. Van aanaholt would be my only addition!
Really? You cannot find anything upsetting with this selection? Really shows how much blame was on Blind. Almost the same selection, about three popular names from these forums and to Bob Cobb, Padt, an Ajax product, very good with his feet and builds well from the back.
Not much different here and it’s only a preselection, but I do like the idea of selecting Ake, if only to cap-tie him and prevent Ivory Coast getting him as was rumored. Now that might seem like an extreme measure for an unproven talent, but gone are the days when the Dutch had a luxury of high-quality players to choose from at every position. So better lock him in while you can (remember what happened with Ziyech). Throw him on as a substitute against Luxembourg with 2 mins left to make sure he’s played a competitive match and can’t switch later 🙂
Also, the fact that Sergio Padt is in the squad shows just how little depth there is at GK right now.
Also, another question, and yes there are already 3 RB’s in the provisional, but Karsdorp? Is he battling injury? I guess that’s why he subbed in late in the final game. But LB again…no Willems, no PVA and Pieters or does he feel he can cover with BMI and Viergever? I like the inclusion of Padt, but adding a fourth keeper (Mulder) would have been better competition. I think Dick would have been lynched if he had let another Dutch talent go (Aké). I do think Wout Weghorst or Ricky van Wolfswinkle deserve the call up with fantastic seasons, unless he is just trying to play Locadia so he doesn’t leave for Caraçao. Clasie, Fer, Kongolo are a few others that deserve a call van La Parra has had a good season and is worth a look. The van Dijk and Bruma injuries aren’t doing so well for us and maybe instead of de Ligt (I am a fan and an Ajax fan, but he needs more game time) why not St. Juste? Lacking again on the right footed CB’s, if de Vrij goes down it will be Bulgaria all over again or use Veltman in that role. I guess what I’m trying to say is, please for the love of God, qualify for Russia!!
