American striker Freddy Adu has started a trial at AZ Alkmaar with a view of earning a deal with the Eredivisie club.

aduThe trial has been organised by former USA midfielder and AZ technical director Earnest Stewart.

Adu has been without a club since his contract expired with Brazilian side EC Bahia, should the trial become successful Alkmaar would become the 25 year old’s 10th different football club. The striker has previously had spells in Portugal, France, Greece and Turkey.

The former Monaco man first came to prominence in the U-20 WC in 2005 organised in the Netherlands. Back then he was nicknamed Pele by the American media, and was seen as one of the biggest talents in world football.

Speaking to Voetbal international this is what Earnest Stewart said about the trial,

“We have become champions together in America and in the the coming weeks Adu gets a chance to prove himself in Alkmaar.”

A full USA international Adu has 17 caps to his name but last appeared in the 2011 Gold Cup.
