Real Madrid superstar Marco Asensio has revealed he spoke with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Danny Blind over representing the Dutch national team before opting for Spain.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Palma, represented Spain through his youth career but was eligible to switch to Netherlands because of his Dutch mother.
Speaking to Cope, Asensio revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was assistant to Danny Blind during his reign in charge, tried to convince him to switch to Oranje. However, he could not be tempted away from Spain
He said, “I was called by Van Nistelrooy to play for Netherlands.”I talked to him for a while, then he passed me to the head coach and he told me that they wanted me at all costs.

“I really did not hesitate (committing to Spain).”
Since then Asensio has gone on to become a star for Real Madrid and has earned four caps for the Spain national team.
