In the final week of the transfer window, Chelsea paid around €4 million to bring Atsu in from Porto, but immediately sent him on loan to Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem.
The 21 year old winger is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, after breaking into the Porto first team last season. The Ghanaian is now ready to prove himself to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho by starring for Vitesse in his one year loan deal.
Atsu told BBC Sport, “I’m happy because as a player you always want to be playing to stay in good shape,”
“When Chelsea came for me, I saw a good opportunity to work with a massive club and a great coach. I know I have to prove myself at Vitesse first and I’m determined to do just that.”
Atsu is among six other Chelsea players to be loaned to the Arnhem club this summer, joining the likes of Lucas Piazon, Gael Kakuta, and Patrick van Aanholt.
After the international break, Atsu should make his debut away at ADO Den Haag on Saturday the 14th.
