According to Voetbal International, Blackburn took the Swede on trial last week, but have not been impressed enough to offer the 26-year-old a contract, and he returns to AZ Alkmaar.
Avdic was signed by AZ from Werder Bremen in 2013 after the striker had netted eight goals in 24 games during a loan spell with PEC Zwolle. However Avdic has failed to impress in Alkmaar, failing to score in 13 Eredivisie matches for the club.
Last season Avdic spent time on loan with Heracles, netting four goals, but he must now try to find another club after being deemed surplus to requirements by AZ boss John van den Brom.
AZ are also hoping to sell left back Danny Gorter and young defender Djavan Anderson, who was signed from Ajax last summer.
