AZ Alkmaar eased to a 2-0 win over Groningen thanks to two excellent goals from midfielder Nemanja Gudelj at the AFAS Stadion on Saturday night.

az azThe home side got off to the perfect start after Nemanja Gudelj smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box to make it 1-0 after only three minutes.

AZ were rampant in the opening 20 minutes and Gudelj netted a second goal with a stunning volley on the turn after a pin point cross from the right.

Before half time it could have been 3-0, but Marco Bizot saved efforts from Aron Johannsson, and Steve Berghuis to keep the score down.

Groningen improved in the second half, and Esteban had to make a smart stop to deny a fierce shot from Filip Kostic after 51 minutes.

AZ Alkmaar comfortably saw out the last twenty minutes of the match to claim three points which temporarily moves them up to 6th, and above Groningen, who drop to 8th.
