AZ Alkmaar came back from 2-0 down to comfortably defeat Willem II 5-3 in the AFAS Stadion.

After four losses in a row, Adrie Koster brought Kwasi Wriedt into the starting line-up for the trip to Alkmaar.

Willem II started brightly and they took the lead in the 22nd minute with Zakaria Aboukhlal accidently diverting the ball into his own net.

Myron Boadu thought he had equalised but his goal was disallowed for offside. In the 36th minute, Calvin Stengs was penalised by VAR for a handball and Mike Tresor made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Teun Koopmeiners quickly pulled one back with a low free-kick past Robbin Ruiter. The AZ captain then equalised before the break, meeting a Jesper Karlsson corner to poke the ball into the net at the front post.

AZ began the second half brightly and in the 53rd minute, Stengs gave them the lead with a low strike into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Fredrik Midtso made it 4-2 with a lovely strike in the 65th minute before Karlsson netted a penalty after a foul by Derrick Kohn.

Che Nunnely pulled one back in stoppage time but AZ gets the three points. They are seventh with a game in hand, while Willem II is 16th.
