AZ Alkmaar proved too strong for NAC Breda on Saturday evening. The visitors came away from the Rat Verlegh Stadion with a 3-1 win.

NAC began the game brightly with Mitchell Te Vrede going close with a header before forcing Marco Bizot into a good save in the fourth minute.

However, AZ grew into the game and on 32 minutes they had the lead as Wout Weghorst cut the ball back for Alireza Jahanbakhsh to find the top corner. It was nearly 2-0 before the break but Guus Til’s effort came back off the bar.

Til did eventually make it 2-0 in the 47th minute with a deflected strike that wrong-footed Nigel Bertrams in the NAC goal. Five minutes later, the goalkeeper was nowhere to be seen as Mats Seuntjens effort from 30-yards found the middle of the goal to make it 3-0.

Umar Sadiq pulled one back for the home side on the rebound after his initial header was kept out by Bizot. However, that proved to be nothing but a consolation.

AZ move to within four points of second-placed Ajax, while NAC stay 15th.
