Last year, the roof on the AFAS Stadion collapsed, leading to AZ having to play home games at ADO Den Haag’s stadium. When they returned, the stadium didn’t have a roof.
However, AZ can now move forward with building a new roof on their AFAS Stadion after an agreement was reached with BAM. The roof has been designed by ZJA.
A statement said, “The new roof – designed by ZJA – will extend four meters on all sides towards the field, which will provide the stadium with more comfort for supporters in rainy weather. The current light poles are being replaced by sustainable LED lighting in the eaves.”
AZ’s General Director Robert Eenhoorn said. “As a club, we are taking another step forward, despite the difficult time we have been in together. We offer our fans a safe, comfortable and innovative stadium. ”
The work is set to start soon and extend into the start of next season. AZ will still be able to play games at home until the work is complete.
