AZ Alkmaar have moved four points clear in fourth after hammering Emmen 5-0 in the AFAS Stadion.

The home side have been in great form since the winter break and after only ten minutes they found themselves in front. Teun Koopmeiners found the net from the penalty spot.

Just before the half-hour mark, Guus Til was brought down and Koopmeiners netted his second spot-kick of the game. Before the break, Svensson’s cross was headed into his own net by Michael de Leeuw.

Two minutes into the second half, Calvin Stengs made it 4-0 but in the build-up there was a nasty clash of heads between Oussama Idrissi and Mats Seuntjens. The latter had to be taken off on a stretcher.

The injury cast a shadow on the rest of the match but just before full-time, Stengs set up Bjorn Johnsen to fire in AZ’s fifth goal.

The victory moves AZ four points above Vitesse in fourth, while Emmen sit 15th.
