Advocaat is set to leave Feyenoord in the summer and on Friday, Slot’s name was emphatically linked with the position. Some outlets even rumoured that a deal has already been done.
AZ Alkmaar have not reacted well to this news and Slot has been immediately removed from his position. Technical director Max Huiberts said on the club’s website, “At AZ we want a head coach for the group who is fully focused on AZ.”
Assistant coach Pascal Jansen will finish the season as head coach of the first-team.
Slot replaced John van den Brom as AZ head coach last year and made them title challengers last season. This campaign hasn’t been as successful but AZ remains unbeaten in the league and they are one win against HNK Rijeka away from getting through the Europa League group stages.
