AZ Alkmaar are backing Cambuur and De Graafschap’s bid for promotion, and they believe a 20 team Eredivisie could work.

The KNVB dismissed the chances of having a 20 team Eredivisie before they made their decision to prevent promotion and stop relegation.

Cambuur and De Graafschap will take the KNVB to court this week as they look to reverse the decision, and AZ Alkmaar are backing the two Keuken Kampioen Divisie sides.

AZ Alkmaar general manager Robert Eenhoorn doesn’t see why a 20 team league wasn’t discussed. He told NOS, “We were in favour of that. Then you would have pleased the bottom of the Eredivisie and the top of the Eerste Divisie.

“Of course it is difficult to integrate into the program. In the call between the KNVB and the clubs it was said that it was almost impossible, but that does not mean that it is impossible.”
