AZ Alkmaar has confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Mathew Ryan on a deal until the summer of 2024.

Hobie Verhulst is currently the number-one goalkeeper at AZ, but his competition Peter Vindahl Jensen departed for FC Nurnberg. AZ needed a new goalkeeper and they now have that with the arrival of Ryan.

The 30-year-old joins from FC Copenhagen and signs a contract until the end of the 2024 season.

Ryan told the club website, “You only have to look at the club and its history once to see that it is a good and ambitious club.Β There is a lot to play for and I dream of achieving the highest of the highest together with the team.”

Ryan has had a busy career, having played for Club Brugge, Valencia, RC Genk, Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal, and Real Sociedad before joining FC Copenhagen. He has also made 79 appearances for the Australian national team.
