AZ Alkmaar have completed the signing of PEC Zwolle midfielder Ben Rienstra on a five-year-deal.

The 25-year-old came through the AZ Alkmaar youth academy, but left for Heracles in 2010 after a lack of first team opportunities. After four years in Almelo Rienstra joined PEC Zwolle, where he has made 35 league appearances for Ron Jans side.
The midfielder now returns to AZ on a five-year-deal after a deal was struck with PEC Zwolle on Wednesday.
Rienstra spoke of his delight to the AZ club website, “I always hoped that I could again play football here, close to my family and friends. It could not be better.”
AZ director Earnest Stewart added, “We have in recent months found that we needed an addition in midfield ”
“Especially after the departure of Nemanja Gudelj we were looking for a leader type. Ben Rienstra is such a player.”
