Apart from PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar are currently the form team in the Eredivisie, and they look set to shrug off their sluggish start to the season.
On the back of three straight wins, AZ Alkmaar went into the game in Nijmegen full of confidence and after only 35 seconds they had the lead. Dabney Dos Santos was set free on the left and his cross was tapped in by Markus Henriksen.
On 15 minutes it was 2-0 as Henriksen picked out Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the box, and the winger netted his first AZ goal, which comes against the side he led to promotion last season.
NEC failed to recover from their poor start and eventually substitute Levi Garcia sealed victory for AZ with a tap-in late on. One blow for AZ will be the injury to top scorer Vincent Janssen, who had to be helped down the tunnel.
AZ now rise to eighth and are only five points behind Feyenoord in third. NEC remain 5th.
