After a strong start to 2019, AZ had a horror week which saw them lose their 100% league record last weekend and then exit the cup on penalties to Willem II.
John van den Brom’s side will now focus on catching Feyenoord in third spot and after half-an-hour they were ahead against Fortuna. Thomas Ouwejan was brought down by Alexei Koselev and Teun Koopmeiners squeezed a penalty under the goalkeeper.
However, Fortuna struck back ten minutes later through a Lazoras Lamprou headed before Andrija Novakovich made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time with a low strike into the bottom corner.
Whatever van den Brom said at the break worked as Ouwejan crossed for Til to equalise in the 53rd minute and from that point there was only one winner.
On the hour mark, Til set up Oussama Idrissi for a tap-in before Koopmeiners wrapped up the victory from close range after Idrissi hit the bar.
AZ could have had more but they settled for a 4-2 victory in the end which keeps them three points behind Feyenoord. Fortuna are 13th.
