AZ Alkmaar have moved joint top after Myron Boadu’s late header gave them a 1-0 victory over Ajax.

The clash between the countries top two was the first game to be played in the AFAS Stadion since the roof collapsed back in August.

AZ welcomed Myron Boadu back into the starting eleven after he missed the defeat to Manchester United. Ajax were without Daley Blind, Quincy Promes and Sergino Dest. Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Perr Schuurs, and Ravzan Marin all started.

AZ began the game brightly but they didn’t trouble Andre Onana in the Ajax goal. Boadu nearly got through on goal but was stopped by an excellent Schuurs challenge.

The best chance of the first half fell to Ajax just before the break but Donny van de Beek could only fire wide of the target.

The second half was a cagey affair with both sides only having half chances. Schuurs had an effort from distance well saved by Marco Bizot, while at the other end, Boadu raced in on goal but tripped at the wrong moment.

The game seemed destined to finish 0-0 but in the 90th minute, a corner was met by Boadu, who headed in from close range to give AZ the lead.

Nicolas Tagliafico had the chance to equalise just before the end but his header sailed just wide of the post.

The victory moves AZ level on points with Ajax at the top but behind them on goal difference. A victory that blows the title race wide open.
