AZ Alkmaar’s American striker Aron Johannsson is set to miss the start of the Eredivisie season as he undergoes ankle surgery later this month.

Johannsson made one appearance for his country during the tournament, as a substitute after he came on for the former AZ player Jozy Altidore against Ghana.
The 23 year old earned a spot in his country’s World cup squad having scored 26 goals in a breakthrough season for him. The goals also helped him earn a contract extension till 2018.
According to the club the striker was struggling with the injury prior to the world cup and the surgery means he will be out for 6-8 weeks.
The Cheese Farmers begin their season when they visit Heracles Almelo on 9th August.
