The 34-year-old joined the Bundesliga club in 2011 from Liverpool, but now has mixed feelings on his time in Germany.
He told Pro Shots Magazine, “It is the only transfer in my career that I regret.
“I did it to stay in the picture with the Dutch national team. That is why it was doubly disappointing that I also missed the boat at Oranje.”
Babel continued, “You come from the Ajax school where you always dominate, you go to Liverpool where exactly the same is the case and then you go to a team where you mainly have to run after the ball. They thought a player from Liverpool was also the saviour. Of course, that was not the case.”
Babel made 51 appearances for Hoffenheim before leaving in the summer of 2012 for Ajax. He then had spells with Kasimpasa, Al-Ain, Deportivo La Coruna, Besiktas, Fulham, and is currently with Galatasaray.
