PSG defeated Lyon on penalties to seal the French Coupe de la Ligue title after a 0-0 draw.

PSG had already lifted the Coupe de France last week after beating Saint-Etienne, and once again, Mitchel Bakker was in the starting line-up as they went in search of another trophy. The young Dutch left-back came up against Memphis Depay, who started in the Lyon attack.

The Dutch international was heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, and his departure from Lyon seems more likely now with the defeat on Friday ending their hopes of securing European football next season unless they win the Champions League.

The match was a drab affair with chances few and far between during the ninety minutes. Memphis was replaced with ten minutes left of regular time while Bakker played the full 120 minutes as the game went onto penalties.

Former Vitesse and Ajax winger Bertrand Traore missed his spot kick to hand PSG a 6-5 victory in the shootout.

Its another trophy for PSG, while both clubs now prepare for the Champions League’s return next month. Lyon faces Juventus next Friday for a place in the last eight. PSG are in a quarter final against Atalanta on the 12th of August.
