Since Ronald Koeman was named Barcelona head coach last week, the club has been linked with a move for several Dutch internationals. Donny van de Beek, Georginio Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay and Myron Boadu could all follow their former Oranje boss to Spain according to reports.
The latest player added to that list is AZ Alkmaar winger Calvin Stengs, with Sky Sports reporting that the 21-year-old could be Koeman’s first signing as Barcelona boss.
Koeman has reportedly recommended the winger to Barcelona’s board, who already had Stengs on their radar.
Stengs still has three-years left on his current deal in Alkmaar, and would not be allowed to leave on the cheap. A deal would cost Barcelona a lot of money, and with cash tight at the club they would have to let some players go before making a move for the Dutch international.
Stengs has made 74 appearances for AZ, scoring 17 goals and adding 18 assists.
