After an excellent season in Rotterdam, Berghuis has been widely expected to leave Feyenoord for another adventure abroad.
Speaking to AD, Berghuis has stated he is still open to an adventure abroad but hinted he could stay as well. He said, The ambition to play abroad again is not gone. But the feeling has changed. Especially if you compare it with the last season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the first months under Jaap Stam.”
Being captain has also motivated the winger, “Being a captain now was a real stimulus that I needed. I thought that at the beginning of the season.”
Berghuis has had conversations with Dick Advocaat and Frank Arnesen recently, and he is happy with the club’s ambitions, “They do send the right signals.
“Those two are just not easily satisfied. I really like that. If they send that signal within the club and everyone has to participate, we will rise and rise. We are working on something. Lawyer and Arnesen really want to put something here. They radiate that to the group and that is an important atmosphere for a top club. A top sports atmosphere. I missed that and that is back at Feyenoord.”
