A goal from Steven Bergwijn was enough for Ajax to record a 1-0 victory at Sparta Rotterdam.

Alfred Schreuder was without Antony for the trip to Rotterdam with the wantaway winger replaced by Steven Berghuis. Calvin Bassey also came into the side and Owen Wijndal dropped to the bench.

Ajax struggled to break down Sparta in the opening stages with Nick Olij making a good save to deny Dusan Tadic, while Devyne Rensch hit the post. Before the break, Bergwijn broke the deadlock as he shrugged off a challenge and fired the ball into the net via the inside of the post.

Brian Brobbey struck the bar in the early stages of the second half, while at the other end, Sven Mijnans forced Remko Pasveer into a good save.

In the 70th minute, Ajax had Pasveer to thank for keeping them ahead as he made saves to deny Younes Namli and then Jason Lokilo. The visitors then saw out the rest of the game to record their third straight win.

Ajax goes top with nine points from nine while Sparta are still on one point.
