Bergwijn was expected to miss the rest of the campaign for Tottenham, but the lockdown allowed the Netherlands international to get fit again and he started against Manchester United. Tahith Chong was not in the visitors squad.
In the 27th minute, Tottenham took the lead through Bergwijn, who raced through the Manchester United defence before his fierce strike flew through David De Gea.
That was Bergwijn’s third goal in six games for Spurs, and third straight at Tottenham’s stadium in the Premier League. That matches Rafael van der Vaart, who did the same for Spurs back in the 2010/11 season.
It was nearly 2-0 shortly afterwards when Bergwijn found Son with an excellent cross, but the attacker was denied by an excellent De Gea save.
Bergwijn was substituted in the 70th minute but his goal was not the match winner. Eric Dier fouled Paul Pogba in the box and Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot.
Manchester United are fifth while Tottenham Hotspur remains 8th.
