Christian Eriksen gave Denmark the lead but Australia equalised through a Mile Jedinak penalty. The Aussies then created several chances in the second half but had to settle for a point, which keeps them in the competition.

Van Marwijk said, ”I have the same feeling now after the match as I had after the France game the only difference is that we had more chances to win today and a victory would have been deserved.

”I can only be happy about the way we played today. We knew that we could play good football against Denmark. We created a lot of chances and we deserved to win 2-1.

”After two matches we should have 4 points in my opinion. I am positive and we must carry on in this vein. We have a chance to reach the last 16 of the World Cup and we will go for it.

”We must win against Peru and then we will see where we are. We played well today and I am disappointed that we did not win.”
